WEEK3 - Communicate using the Internet 💭

Hi peeps! I’m back again with new things that I would like to share with all of you here. This week’s lesson is pretty much hard I guess. There are a lot of new things being exposed. The things that I don’t even know their functions before this.

First thing first, during the first class of the week, we had learned about Search Engines and Online Database which I don’t even know what are they. But after Madam Azida explained to us how they work, I slowly could grasp the topic. So, search engine is a web tool that allows users to enter keywords and find information on websites contained in its database. It is used to find particular sites on the World Wide Web. Search engine is divided into four parts which are Database, Web-crawler or Spider, User Interface, and Info Retrieval System.

Hold on, peeps! I have more to share. Previously, I only know Google, Safari, Mozilla Firefox, and etc. which I used them to search for information that I need. I don’t even know their exact function until I learned that there are actually two types of search engine which are Specialized Search Engines and Meta Search Engines. Specialized Search Engines is the one that we frequently used like Yahoo, Google, and etc. Meanwhile, Meta Search Engines were divided into three types which are surface web, deep web, and dark web. Peeps, dark web is dangerous ya! It stores illegal information. Please note that.

Moving on to the second class, Madam Azida taught us about Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and ESL. In my previous post, I had briefly explained about CMC. To recall back, CMC is any form of communication or interaction between two or more people via separate computer through network. In our daily life, the most frequent medium of communication that we used are Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp. CMC is divided into two which are synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous CMC is where communication is synchronised and it allows direct communication which I believed that it could be very effective to teach language to students. On the other hand, asynchronous CMC is where communication is not synchronised. The information that you wanted to deliver was not exchanged and replied immediately. In addition, I found that collaborative learning is very interesting as students can discuss or exchange their information even when they are in different location. So say no more to free rider! 😜

I guess that’s all for now. See you in my next post! Bye 💛
